The name "Talavera" comes from the Spanish town, Talavera de la Reina. It is reported that artisans from this town traveled to Mexico in the 2nd half of the 16th century during Spain's colonization of the Americas. Their initial destination was Puebla, the city now most closely associated with Talavera tile and ceramics. The unique skills that these craftsmen brought with them, however, can be traced to influences Italy, North Africa, Asia and Northern Europe.

  • Our authentic Talavera tile only comes from the city of Puebla and the nearby communities of Atlixco, Cholula, and Tecali, Mexico.
  • Every tile is hand painted and low fired; giving it a rustic, true Southwest feel.
  • The crackle glaze inherent to Talavera should be sealed prior to use.
  • All of our Talavera are offered in 4x4"; with limited designs in 2x2"
  • Many of the solid colors are also available in 2x4" surface bullnose and 2x2" corner, 2x4" surface cap and 2x2" corner, as well as 1x4" quarter round trim.
  • Not suitable for underwater applications or in outdoor areas that get below freezing.
