Tips for Choosing Grout Color

Posted by on

Grout does more than finish your tile floor, wall and backsplash. It also adds a design element crucial to the overall look of your room. It may not seem like a big deal when first selecting the grout, but grout color is important to bringing an entire room together. Here are a few tips for choosing the best grout color.

Hundreds of Options

You'll find hundreds of grout options, yet all can be broken down into three categories: light, dark or neutral. When selecting a grout, you need to decide whether you want a contrasting color or one that blends into the background. A contrasting color can make the room feel busy to some people, but which may work perfectly if you're working with lighter colored tiles. A coordinating grout that matches the tile color increases the size of the room, which is a good idea if you're working in smaller spaces.

Cleaning Requirements

No matter what, lighter colored materials are more prone to staining. You see this in clothing, furniture, carpet, etc. The same is true with grout. A brilliant white that turns off white shows almost instantly, especially if the grout is used with a white tile. The darker the grout, the less likely stains will shows up, so keep this in mind when choosing between grout colors.

When it comes to selecting the right grout color, you have hundreds of options to choose from. Whatever you are looking for in your room design though, make sure to keep in mind size, space, color, and needs of the room. All white may be brilliant in a rarely used sitting room, or the wall in a kitchen to help brighten it up, but may be a poor choice for a counter top! With all of this in mind, you shouldn't have much of an issue selecting the right grout color for the room.
