Non-Slip Natural Stone for Pool Decks

Aug 3rd 2017

When creating a unique look for your poolscape, a non-slip natural stone pool deck can define your pool’s personality and style. Natural stone can be used to create a sophisticated setting that you and your family will enjoy for years and take pride in while entertaining. Consider the following varieties of stone for your pool deck projects:

Travertine

As one of the more popular choices for a luxury pool deck, travertine comes in tones of gold, light brown, brown and ivory in three finishes: tumbled, honed and polished. It’s ideal for when an artistic setting is desired. Because of its porous nature, travertine absorbs water almost instantly, which makes it virtually slip-free.

Flagstone

For a pool deck that can stand up to heat and constant use, flagstone is a sure bet to create a one-of-a-kind pool deck that is slip-free. Flagstone comes in rich earth tones, textures and a variety of shapes. Because of this stone’s density, it lasts for years and is low maintenance.

Bluestone

As a variety of flagstone, bluestone also resists water, is hardwearing and provides a non-slip surface suitable for a pool deck. Traditionally appearing in a blue-gray hue, bluestone comes in three ways: natural cleft, thermal and honed.

Keep in mind, while these three types of natural stone are hardwearing, you do need to use the right sealers and cleaners from the start to keep your pool deck looking great for years to come. It’s also important to note that it’s crucial to not put off repairs with the proper materials if any piece of stone begins to show signs of damage.
